The Community Health Center Association of Connecticut (CHCACT) is a not-for-profit corporation tax-exempt pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code. CHCACT’s mission is to enable Connecticut’s federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) to provide access to the highest quality health care and social services to Connecticut’s underserved populations. Incorporated in 1989, CHCACT was originally named the Connecticut Primary Care Association and changed its name to Community Health Center Association of Connecticut in 2007.
Twelve FQHCs are members of CHCACT and each has a seat on the CHCACT Board of Directors. FQHCs in Connecticut served more than 240,000 patients at over 100 sites in 2008.
CHCACT has contractual arrangements with its member centers as well as one non-member center in Connecticut to implement a wide range of grant funded programs that provide training, technical assistance and support to Connecticut’s FQHCs. CHCACT is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC), other federal agencies, private foundations and the State of Connecticut.
