Company Overview

The New Haven Free Public Library (NHFPL) is a community treasure focused on creating experiences for all ages and sectors of society to advance economic engagement, lifelong learning, cultural connections, and young minds. The Library serves as a powerful force in developing strong and safe neighborhoods; providing opportunities for connected learning, job readiness and entrepreneurship; and stimulating creativity, civic awareness, and community leadership. The NHFPL has five locations across the city as well as a Readmobile and 24/7 digital branch of online resources.

The mission of the New Haven Free Public Library is to ensure that all New Haven’s citizens have full and unlimited access to information and knowledge so that they may meet the needs of daily living, have opportunities for self-education, and participate successfully in self-government.

Company History

NHFPL enjoys a 130+ year history as a vibrant community asset for which the Ives Memorial Library serves as a cornerstone on the historic New Haven Green, serving residents since 1911 from a magnificent Cass Gilbert facility. Notable Accomplishments / Recognition

NHFPL is a vibrant, dynamic, urban library on the move that enjoys strong support from the City and local community partners. The Library is a participant in the Edge Assessment, http://www.libraryedge.org/, and Project Outcome, https://www.projectoutcome.org/, while it completes a bridge year in 2017 transitioning from its 2014-16 Strategic Plan, http://nhfpl.org/about/library-history-mission-2/, to a new (to be created) 2018+ Plan.
