Sustainable CT
Company Overview
Sustainable CT is a vibrant organization that inspires, supports, and celebrates actions that make Connecticut communities great places to live for all. We do this through a roadmap of sustainability actions, direct support and funding to help towns implement these actions, and a program to recognize the sustainability achievements of Connecticut towns and cities. From affordable housing to vibrant public spaces, walkable and safe roads, and support for local businesses. We help towns and cities improve the quality of life for all residents.
Sustainable CT strives to be inclusive, innovative, and collaborative.? We are committed to equity, and to creating communities where all are welcome and have the opportunity to thrive. We recognize the natural environment as the foundation for the health and well-being of all people and the strength of the local economy. An independently funded, grassroots, municipal effort, our program is designed to support all Connecticut municipalities, regardless of size, geography or resources.

Company History
Sustainable CT was created by towns, for towns. Municipal leaders and residents from across the state, the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM) and people from key agencies, non-profits and businesses partnered to develop the program during 2016 and 2017. The Institute for Sustainable Energy at Eastern Connecticut State University led and coordinated program development, with generous support from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, Hampshire Foundation, and Common Sense Fund.
The CCM Task Force on Sustainability created the vision for Sustainable CT in early 2016. During 2017, the Advisory Committee, guided program development and developed a long-term governance structure for Sustainable CT. Many members of the Advisory Committee went on to join our Board of Directors. Sustainable CT officially launched at the 2017 CCM Annual Convention.
All of Connecticut’s 169 towns and cities participated in Sustainable CT’s development, represented directly by a municipal official, staff person, local volunteer, or by a regional entity representing member municipalities. Working groups met from February to June 2017 to develop the menu of actions. We are grateful for the more than 180 dedicated members of the nine working groups.
